I copied this page from my book, because I know how many people may be suffering from this condition.
I don't see my mentioning the yoga alignment exercises and a few videos on closing the valves. I included these links at the bottom.
I still get this problem here and then. I know what causes it and what to do. My new helpful remedies are patchouli essential oil to soothe my stomach, and defrosted coconut and Dragon fruit to cool it off.
Balancing my stomach lining, GERD and Twisted stomach
Before getting into digestion problems with the stomach, let’s list some facts.
Our stomach has a mucus lining, protecting the intestinal walls
It has 2 muscular valves at its beginning and end:
A flap valve called the cardiac or lower esophageal sphincter, which is under the diaphragm where the esophagus ends and the stomach begins, and
the pyloric sphincter sits at the bottom end of the stomach
band of smooth muscle
In mid-nineteenth century and before the advent of modern endoscopes, Dr. Norman Barrett, a British thoracic surgeon, postulated the presence of a fold that functions as a flap valve between the esophagus and the stomach (gastroesophageal junction or GEJ) to prevent acid reflux. Eventually in 1996 Dr. Lucius Hill described and classified this gastroesophageal “flap valve.” Dr. Hill’s works resulted in inclusion of the flap valve in the Gray’s Anatomy reference book in 1999.
Some people put many pillows under their head to stop the acid from rising. A better idea may be to elevate the bed (put something under the feet of the bed where the head is) not to ruin the posture and breathing
Breathing with the stomach has many benefits
Think of GERD as a pressure in a champagne bottle with a cork. If there is too much fermentation inside the bottle, the cork will pop and champagne will spill. Same in our stomach. The two valves we have are there to protect us from spilling digested food.
If we drink after or with our meals, the digestive acids will start irritating the valves.
If our stomach muscles are too weak, or our stomach is too big, the valves may not be able to handle the stomach contents. Good posture is important.
To get better, it is important to take baby steps in fixing the problem.
drink only until the esophagus lining is healed and the valves are closed
next step – eat “baby food”, small portions. Make sure your digestive system can handle that. Remember, that every time you eat, digestive juices / acids are created.
Slowly graduate to solid food, when your body is ready.
When your arm hurts, you do not carry heavy weights, rights? Same with your digestive system – do it gradually. Patience.
I would like to share with you what I do when my stomach gets inflamed.
I used to get this a lot in the past. However, once I figured out what was causing the problem, and addressed it, I don't get it much anymore.
There are 2 reasons I used to get inflammation, both related to my emotions:
stress and overeating
an acquired body response to memories from the past, triggering twisting of the stomach
The first one, many people are probably familiar with as Acid Reflux or GERD
"The most common problem with the esophagus is gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD). It happens when a band of muscle at the end of your esophagus does not close properly. This allows stomach contents to leak back, or reflux, into the esophagus and irritate it. Over time, GERD can cause damage to the esophagus. Other problems include heartburn and XXXXX." posted at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/esophagusdisorders.html
Twisted stomach is very painful as well, as it literally twists.
My emotional triggers were memories from the past. Every time they resurfaced, it would happen.
For example, one time I went to meet with an acquaintance, a chiropractor. The thought of him offering to adjust me, brought back the memory of my previous session with another chiropractor. Before I knew it, I got the twisted stomach. Being aggravated by my teenager added acid to my already bad situation.
I like to emphasize what is helpful for me in these situations.
Not eating much, so that the body does not release digestive juices. Plus, it is easier to reach the stomach lining when the stomach is empty
Using Valor for balancing, Peace and Calming, or Valerian on my spine, upper neck and on my stomach, Aroma Siez helps my muscles relax, Deep Relief roll on topically to cool off my stomach, for pain relief, and to aid the restoration (amazing blend)
Taking fresh aloe, sesame oil and Myrrh (I just swallow it - put 1 drop under my tongue, and a minute later, swallow it) keeps me pain-free. Ocotea is helping too, but I prefer Myrrh. I love using Helichrysum, as it quickly soothes and repairs, and does not taste bad.
A nice bath warms me up and relaxes tight muscles
Probiotics are a must
Wheatgrass and other green juices, as well as fresh aloe gel, sesame oil aid repair and provide needed nourishment
When I am ready to eat, I am very gentle on my stomach so as not to irritate it. For example, I may eat a little oat groats mixed with sesame oil and avocado (breakfast), 2 clementines at night, followed by aloe, sesame oil and Myrrh.
I handle the emotions, which triggered my stomach acting up, by just inhaling and putting Release on my stomach, to release the stored memories. If it is more serious, I deal with it by using Gary's protocol.
Lessons?
Less emotions, less acidic foods, less overeating - my body has trained me well!
I also need to develop better stomach muscles.
Some people feel acidic relief after drinking a drop or two of lemon with water. I don't think I tried it.
NOTE: When I got a twisted stomach many years ago, I was not familiar with essential oils. One thing I realized - the back muscles of my stomach were tense and hurting. Should I have had essential oils at the time, I could have rubbed them on my back and stomach. Lavender and RutaVala come to mind. I still remember one time experiencing excruciating pain and calling my friend to bring me Valerian essential oil - my savior.
I have many posts on digestion throughout my blog and website.
Here is one link:
Thought to share with you this testimonial sent to me by someone I guided to better health:
Nancy L Eugeniya Bentsman since I've been stretching and exercising, my hip is much better, more in line, I can feel the difference when I walk.
As for digestion, getting my digestion working better had helped more than anything. It's not e where it needed to be, but much better.
With all of the digestive issues I've had for most of my life, it's wonderful to finally not suffer as bad. I used to wake with a horrible stomach ache every morning, stayed bloated, couldn't use the bathroom.. all those miserable issues. I have to be very careful of what I eat. I suffer for days from one mistake, but getting better
