On February 29th 2020, Leap day of all days, I was badly injured. I had a slip and fall. I went to the hospital emergency room and they said I had dislocated my shoulder. Then I started having seizures. The pain refused to go away, and more seizures came and by July I had no sleep, literally, for weeks. I went to see an orthopedic surgeon and found out it was not a dislocated shoulder, my shoulder was shattered badly, and I went into surgery. The surgeon happened to be a Harvard Medical Trained fellow who had enjoyed a pre med career as understudy and disciple for the great Pianist Misha Dichter. After surgery, I was told I would never play like I once did before the accident. I did not get angry. Even though I could barely walk, and still had seizures, I was living near a desert and near snow capped mountains. On full moons, the hills would look like castles in the sand........
I decided I would allow nature and God to figure it out. Then I became determined, like never before. I worked insanely hard, existing on sheer will, every day, no breaks, with the goal to push so hard that my right hand would not only surmount these insurmountable physical difficulties, but that the result of my hard work and faith would be a result that seemingly defied nature, astounded my surgeon, and would deliver me back to my purpose in life, composing music and playing piano. It took everything I had, but when I decide to get something done, nothing stops me. I don't sleep, I can work 50 hours at a time and I do not use stimulants of any kind except espresso. I am old fashioned in that way.
So, after 41 months, I am pleased to announce I am back, my right hand stronger than ever. I am grateful and blessed.
