What I learned from this
Always tune up yourself - even though I got scared, I told myself a few times, aloud, that I was OK. In fact, I was making jokes and was more concerned about my husband's reaction. Day 2, I told myself to heal to the way I was. And the improvement was speedy!
Trust your intuition - a few seconds before I fell, I knew I was going to. Flying over the front of the bike, that's was what I was thinking in amazement about :)
Learn how to fall off the bike before riding it - try to land on your feet, push bike to the side and then roll
Carry an emergency kit with you and a cell phone - I did have a cell phone on me this time, luckily
You may get a concussion from a fall, even if you don't lose consciousness. I felt nauseous for 6 days, and even almost threw up on day 4
Get the mobility of the injured part as soon as possible before it tightens up and freezes on you. Feel what you can or can't do, be gentle. For example, I was given a sling to wear - it didn't feel comfortable. I felt better relaxing and putting my hand up or down. I didn't feel like using ice - I never do, as I don't want to stop the body doing whatever it knows to do best. Instead, I use essential oils - i.e. helichrysum. In fact, I did a warm compress a few hours later, after I got home from the emergency room. Would you believe, I was hurting so badly, I couldn't even use my hand to sign the papers at the hospital.
The accident
I was biking downhill and did not see a pothole in front. Falling over the handlebars, I landed on my chin. The fall was unreally hard- I thought I was going to die. I also hit the nose, luckily not in an upward direction. I was bleeding from the nose and 5 days later, it's still painful to touch it outside and inside. Initially, it was so full of blood that I couldn't smell anything for a day or so.
Because I didn't fall correctly, which would have been landing on my feet, I hurt my elbow and my rib - these were the most painful. I did bruise my leg badly, but I didn't even feel that pain. My nose took a bad hit too, but luckily not in an upward direction (that would have been fital). I bled profusely from my nose and couldn't smell. The cartilage inside, in the middle was not broken, but hurt on touch. Nose bridge hurt too. I wished I had my essential oils on me - at least helichrysum for starters.
Every day, I took a warm bath with Epsom salt mixed with lavender essential oil and added raw apple cider vinegar. I submerged my whole body and face to assist the healing of my painful spots, including my nose. It helped me relax my whole body, plus applying essential oils on a wet body is more effective. After a bath, I rubbed the essential oils on my arm and did my alignment exercises.
At the beginning, my arm from the elbow down to my fingers was bent 25 degrees, as the orthopedic doctor determined. However, from day one, I already made some progress moving my arm closer to my face and my back, so that I could brush my teeth and help myself from the back. The orthopedic doctor I saw the next day was surprised I could do that.
I wish, I realized from the start that I had a concussion - I was nauseous and kept on sucking on a lemon, plus I rubbed a tiny bit of peppermint essential oil on the back of my palate. I was smart enough to rub the Sacred Frankincense on my brain stem, and after I realized I had a concussion, a day or two later, I rubbed Brain Power NAT technique and on the back of my palate.
These are the essential oils / blends I applied as soon as I could to support soft tissues, bones, circulation and emotions:
helichrysum - works amazingly to support the body in restoration to stop bleeding, bruising, very gentle and can be applied on open wounds. Wish I had it on me. I rubbed it on my open wounds and inside my nose, on my nose's inferior concha (cartilage inside the middle of the nose). Later on, I mixed helichrysum with sea buckthorn oil to use inside my nose.
Valor blend - a "chiropractor in the bottle" - I have a roll on, which is easy to use on my arm and leg. It's part of my favorite Vanguard trio: RutaVala blend - to support the nerve body tissues, and Deep Relief blend - to support healing of body tissues. Don't enjoy being in pain :)
Trauma Life - a gentle blend I used instead of helichrysum on my wounds and bruises later. Good emotional blend
Freedom - love this blend by Gary Young, as it includes support for the nerve tissues as well
PanAway blend - to support my bones. Feels nice and hot. I robbed it on my elbow and nose.
Sacred Frankincense - I used it primarily on my brain stem and took internally with ginger essential oil. Rubbed it at the end of my palate.
Rose ointment - patted my drying wounds on my face and legs
Gentle baby - rubbed only once - I don't think my wounds are going to get scars
Brain Power - used it as in NAT technique and at the end of my palate, and of course, I smelled it.
I'm wearing a flannel shirt and a wool vest to keep my rib area warm. Regularly doing my alignment exercises. Pain is not only from being hurt, but also from inactivity and less of movement and flexibility.
Food for healing
I listen to my body.
The first day it happened, I was extremely thirsty and had fresh lemon juice by itself and in water. The next day, most of the day, I craved fruits - watermelon, etc. By the end of the day, I had nuts and sunflower seeds I soaked and sprouted before.
Surprisingly, I drank coffee, adding frankincense resin tincture. Dulse and kelp helped nausea.
Note
I totally forgot the old folk way to treat bumps and bruises my mom successfully used on me when I was a kid (these were very serious injuries from me fighting with my brother) - pressing on the location a copper or silver coin. I once had a deep indentation in my forehead from a very thick wooden door - I had no trace left after a few hours of my mom pressing on it with a copper coin while I was watching a movie. Thank you mom!!!
